Missile Fired by Yemen’s Houthis Lands Near Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport

Published: May 4, 2025

A missile launched by Yemen's Houthi rebels reportedly landed near Israel’s main international airport, Ben Gurion Airport, early Sunday morning, according to Israeli military sources.

The projectile, believed to have been fired from Houthi-controlled territory in Yemen, did not cause any injuries or significant damage. However, it triggered air-raid sirens across central Israel, prompting brief panic among civilians and a temporary halt to some airport operations.

Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system was reportedly activated but failed to intercept the missile due to its unpredictable trajectory. Authorities are still investigating the origin, type, and intended target of the projectile.

This incident marks a significant escalation in regional tensions, as Houthi forces have previously targeted Israeli interests in response to the ongoing conflict in Gaza and alleged Western involvement. The Israeli government has not yet officially commented on possible retaliation or military response.

The Houthi movement, backed by Iran, has increased its long-range missile and drone capabilities in recent years, allowing it to strike targets far beyond Yemen’s borders. Israeli officials have expressed growing concern over this threat, especially amid increasing instability in the Middle East.

Travel operations at Ben Gurion Airport have since resumed, though heightened security remains in place.
